SR1 opponents band under Elbow River Sustainability Alliance, submit unsolicited emails to regulator

May 28, 2020 by CRC Action Group in News

While we’ve seen two key opponents, Tsuut’ina Nation and Rocky View County, drop their opposition to Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir (SR1) in recent weeks, some remaining opponents appear to have organized themselves under a new name: Elbow River Sustainability Alliance (ERSA).

Members of this new organization include:

  • Bragg Creek Community Association
  • Bragg Creek Chamber of Commerce
  • Redwood Meadows Town Council
  • Springbank Community Association

We understand that their pitch is that the government should go back to the drawing board and look at an apparently “all-inclusive” MacLean Creek project.

The ERSA has provided an unsolicited submission, including a lengthy 413-page document detailing its SR1 concerns, to both federal and provincial regulators.

A 9-page executive summary of the ESRA document is also available.

Additionally, the Springbank Community Association has individually sent a letter to Alberta’s Auditor General outlining perceived inconsistencies in project reporting and transparency on SR1.

While we wanted to inform you of these events, we will not be making any unsolicited submissions of our own.

CRCAG is respecting and monitoring the ongoing regulatory processes, and will engage at the appropriate times. We will keep you updated when this time approaches.
