Glenmore Reservoir pathways reopened, gates project fully complete

September 16, 2020 by CRC Action Group in News

The final upgrades to the Glenmore Dam are complete and the pathway reopened to the public over the Labour Day long weekend.

Although functional and structural components were complete in May 2020, the recreational components were not completed until now. A new and improved wider bridge deck will enhance the experience for cyclists and pedestrians.

Completion of Glenmore Gates an important milestone

The completion of the Glenmore Gates project is certainly an important milestone in the protection of Calgary, and deserves much celebration.

A representative from CRCAG was in attendance at the small ribbon-cutting event on September 4th. Both CRCAG and Flood Free Calgary were mentioned in speeches and thanked for our continued effort to get projects like this one built.

We wanted to share this with you and to extend our great thanks to all of our members – it’s only with your support that we can help achieve these milestones!

Although we certainly need upstream mitigation for inevitable significant flood events, this project is a huge step in the right direction. The City is doing its part to advance local flood mitigation projects that will eventually work in tandem with provincial projects, such as the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir (SR1) and a reservoir on the Bow River.
