April 11, 2019 by CRC Action Group in News

This weekend, the city is hosting a public open house on the Downtown Barrier and other projects planned for the Eau Claire area.

Date: Saturday, April 13
Time: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Location: Eau Claire Market, 200 Barclay Parade SW

“The City is working with Calgarian’s to create a safe, efficient and beautiful riverfront park space, promenade and cycle network in Eau Claire. We are undertaking multiple, connected projects that focus on resiliency, connectivity, and creating great spaces to live, work and play.”

City of Calgary

These projects include:

  • Designing and building a new Eau Claire Promenade
  • Designing a new Eau Claire Plaza
  • Replacing Jaipur Bridge
  • Flood mitigation projects in Eau Claire and Sunnyside

Eau Claire Promenade

In late 2018, West Eau Claire Park, the west portion of the Eau Claire Promenade, and the Centre Street Bridge Barrier were all completed. The Downtown Barrier will be an extension of this infrastructure eastward to the Reconciliation Bridge. These are all elements of the Eau Claire Public Realm Plan.

Once the Downtown Barrier is complete, the entire system will provide 1:200 year flood protection. The project is currently in the design phase with anticipated completion in 2021.

The city will be seeking feedback on the concept designs for the Promenade and the Plaza.

The Downtown Barrier is one of the projects that will benefit from Alberta Community Resilience Program (ACRP) funding as was announced in March 2019 and May 2018.

Members of CRCAG will be in attendance and we hope to see a few of you there!
