INVITE: Open houses on Bow River upstream reservoir options

September 27, 2019 by CRC Action Group in News

Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) recently announced the three short-listed reservoir options for the Bow River.

As part of the Bow Basin Water Management Options (BBWMO) project, AEP has spent the past year working through the Conceptual Assessment of 10 upstream reservoir options and has narrowed its selection to three top choices:

  • New Glenbow reservoir
  • New Morley reservoir
  • Relocated (and expanded capacity) Ghost River reservoir

Public information sessions have been scheduled to provide details about the three options that were selected, as well as an overview of the BBWMO project.

What’s the timeline for a Bow River reservoir?

The Bow Basin Water Management Options project will be divided into four phases. Each phase of the project will require a discrete decision and funding approval from the provincial government in order to progress to the next phase.

Phase 1: Conceptual Assessment
Phase 2: Feasibility Study
Phase 3: Detailed Design and Engineering
Phase 4: Construction

Your engagement in this part of the process is important!

As we have seen with SR1, stakeholder engagement and consultation is a critical element in getting these large infrastructure projects built (and in a timely manner).

These sessions are valuable opportunities to be part of the selection process for the Bow River reservoir project. Attend and inform yourself.

You can find additional information on the BBWMO project at https://talkaep.alberta.ca.

For questions about avenues for providing feedback, please contact us at aep.bowbasin@gov.ab.ca or 403-355-2491.

We hope to see you at the open houses (RSVP with the links provided if you plan to go!) and, as always, we welcome your questions and comments at info@crcactiongroup.ca.

Regards,

Your CRCAG Board
