BREAKING: Tsuut’ina drop opposition to Springbank Reservoir

April 14, 2020 by CRC Action Group in News

The Tsuut’ina Nation have officially withdrawn all objections to the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir (SR1).

This is HUGE news! The Tsuut’ina’s withdrawal of their Statement of Concern removes a significant regulatory barrier for Alberta Transportation and eliminates one of the larger opponents we’d expected to face at the public hearing.

In the official notice dated April 1, 2020, the Tsuut’ina Nation declares:

Tsuut’ina hereby withdraws all of its objections in relation to the Project proceeding forward in the regulatory process. Further, Tsuut’ina will not participate any further in the regulatory review process in relation to the Project.

The Tsuut’ina first publically opposed the project in 2017 and subsequent years saw rigorous action on their behalf in an effort to halt the project.

While the Tsuut’ina will no longer participate in the regulatory process, they will still be an integral part of the project in a few different ways; including consultation on mitigation strategies, land access, and economic participation.

As we reported in our latest SR1 update there are still a few years and significant work ahead of us, however, the Tsuut’ina news and issuance of the federal Round 2 information requests are by far the most promising developments on this file in a long time.

From all of us, we hope this message finds you and your family well, and we want to sincerely thank you for your steadfast commitment to this cause through all of life’s tribulations. Thank you!!
