Have your say! Springbank Project public consultation

May 3, 2016 by CRC Action Group in News

We recently reported to you that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process is underway for the Springbank Off-stream Reservoir Project.  As part of the EIA, the province is hosting public information sessions.  These sessions are your opportunity to ensure your support for this important project is recorded as part of the EIA public consultation process.

This is one of those occasions when we all need to actually show-up and make our support known.  Help us help you –  attend in person  at one of the public consultation sessions detailed below.  Be sure to complete a  comment card  before leaving the session – your documented feedback is important.

The City of Calgary is holding Flood Readiness sessions this week.  For more information go to http://www.calgary.ca/UEP/Water/Pages/Flood-Info/Stay-informed/Information-sessions.aspx.  These are something different and are not related to the EIA for the Springbank project.  Next week’s meetings are the public consultation meetings that we urge you to attend.

Following the Alberta government’s commitment to build the Springbank Off-stream Reservoir as part of the overall provincial flood mitigation strategy, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) required for the project is now underway.

Designed as a dry dam unless flood conditions are present, the Springbank Off-stream Reservoir will work in tandem with the Glenmore Reservoir in Calgary.  Together, the combined storage capacity would accommodate water volumes equal to the 2013 flood.

The Springbank Off-stream Reservoir will be about 15 kilometres west of Calgary near Springbank Road, north of the Elbow River and predominantly east of Highway 22.

Public engagement for this project is continuing.  Please join us to learn more about how this project is progressing and to provide your feedback.
