CALGARY RIVER COMMUNITIES ACTION GROUP – UPDATE

The Calgary River Communities Action Group has been busy since the widely attended Town Hall meeting held on Oct 24th.

  • Tuesday, November 5th – CRCAG met with Mr. Wolf Keller who chairs the City of Calgary’s Flood Mitigation Panel.  A summary of the meeting will be posted by CRCAG.
  • Wednesday, November 6th – CRCAG met with Mr. Andre Corbould, CADM Flood Recovery Task Force, for an update on the Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) and flood mitigation efforts (see summary below re: DRP).
  • Next Week – CRCAG is meeting with Mr. John Conrad, Executive Director Provincial Operations and head of the DRP.

DRP Update from Meeting with Mr. Andre Corbould:

We are pleased to report the following information provided to us yesterday – it’s all in the numbers!

  • 1300 – The number of DRP cheques sent to DRP applicants since our October 24th Town Hall meeting.
  • 12 – The additional number of Executive Directors from within the Alberta Government that were deployed to work on the DRP effective this past Monday.
  • 10 – The number of insurance companies that have now met with Ministers from the Alberta Government and provided clarity around sewer back-up coverage required to advance DRP applications still subject to an insurance hold.
  • 250 – The number of new DRP applications received in the past week.

Keep in mind the importance of November 30, 2013 for two significant deadlines:

  1. Deadline to submit an application for DRP funding.
  2. Deadline to express interest in the floodway buy-out program.  On the Alberta.ca website athttp://alberta.ca/relocating.cfm the following clarifying note is provided: “November 30, 2013 is the last date to express interest in the program, but submitting an application is not obligating the property owner to sell their home. A formal agreement to sell will be required.” [Emphasis added]

For more information on the above deadlines and how to apply to the DRP, please go the Alberta.cawebsite http://alberta.ca/Flood-Recovery.cfm.
