November 26, 2018 by CRC Action Group in News

Last week, MLA Greg Clark for Calgary-Elbow had the opportunity to question Transportation Minister Brian Mason about the Springbank Project.

Find out what the Minister said about the status of the regulatory process, consultation with Indigenous stakeholders, project timelines, and more in Clark’s letter to his constituents (shared below).

Clark also engaged the Municipal Affairs Minister Shaye Anderson, asking for an update on floodway development regulation and flood hazard maps.

CALGARY-ELBOW UPDATE
The following is an update to constituents sent out by the MLA for Calgary-Elbow, Greg Clark, who has consented to us sharing his message with all CRCAG members.

Dear neighbour,

Flood mitigation continues to be a big issue for me, as I know it is for you and anyone who cares about viability of downtown Calgary and river communities.

This week in the Legislature I asked the Minister responsible for the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir project for an update on the regulatory process, and I asked the Minister of Municipal Affairs for an update on flood mapping and the Floodway Development Regulation.

You can watch the exchange here, or read the attached transcript.

The Springbank project is going through a similar regulatory process as large energy infrastructure projects like pipelines, which explains why it is taking so long to get approved. The Alberta government has committed to responding to the latest batch of questions from the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency by the end of the year, which will restart the clock.

Rest assured I will continue pushing for the Springbank project, along with reasonable policy around floodway development that takes into account upstream mitigation, and recognizes the substantial investments homeowners have made to build these vibrant communities.

As always, I would like to hear from you. You can reach me via reply to this email or at (403) 252-0346.

All the best,

Greg
