Call to Action – We Need Your Help!

A CALL TO ACTION

We Need Your Immediate Support for the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir – Again.

If this Ad that ran Saturday in the Calgary Herald upsets you, then act now!

While CRCAG has publically supported the completion of all three upstream mitigation projects proposed for the Elbow River, namely the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir, McLean Creek Dam and the Glenmore Reservoir Diversion Tunnel, we’ve always known that fiscal and political realities may prompt the Alberta Government to make priority choices. We’re also aware that as more time passes between the 2013 floods and the start of construction, the greater the risk that such projects won’t start at all. We cannot allow this to happen!

CRCAG strongly supports the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir as the first flood mitigation project for the Elbow River.  If priority choices have to be made, our clear view is that the Springbank project is superior to the McLean Creek Dam. Why? Because when one compares the scientific, engineering and economic facts, the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir comes out on top. Moreover, we understand that additional localized mitigation plans for Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows are projected to be effective to protect those communities from flooding – and the province has already allocated funds for those measures.

Premier Notley and her newly formed government need to understand how important the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir is to ALL Calgarians – not just those who own homes that were impacted in 2013. All Calgarians rely on the economy generated by the flood-vulnerable downtown core.  Therefore, construction of the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir cannot wait any longer – it is just too important.

Please take a moment RIGHT NOW to send our Premier and this Government our clear message of support for the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir.

As always, our thanks,

Your CRCAG Team

Dear Premier Notley and Minister Phillips:

I am writing to you to express my strong support for the proposed Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir as the first key flood mitigation infrastructure to be built on the Elbow River following the devastating 2013 floods in Calgary.

Although I expect that the Provincial Government is considering the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir and two mitigation infrastructure projects, being the McLean Creek Dam and the Glenmore Reservoir Diversion Tunnel, the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir must proceed forward now.

This is necessary, as our City requires and deserves upstream mitigation in excess of the 1:100 year standard, given the historical floods on record and the tremendous public safety risk to Albertans and the economy when, and not if, Calgary’s downtown suffers its next flood event.

I support the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir wholeheartedly as the first flood mitigation infrastructure project for the Elbow River, given its relative projected effectiveness, cost and timeline for completion.

Thank you for your support of this City.

Yours Sincerely,
