Mayor Nenshi pens letter to Minister McKenna to deny review panel

August 2, 2017 by CRC Action Group in News

In early June, the Federal Court of Canada ruled that it is up to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to decide whether to appoint a public panel to review the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir Project, potentially delaying the project by a year or more.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi, on behalf of the City of Calgary, recently penned a letter to the Honourable Minister Catherine McKenna, requesting that “the environmental assessment not be referred to a review panel.”

In his letter, Nenshi emphasized that “rigorous effort has already been put into the environmental assessment by Alberta Transportation, and The City’s river engineers have also contributed their expertise to ensure that environmental, technical, and operational issues are addressed and meet the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act requirements.”

There’s still time! Minister McKenna has not made her decision yet. Write to the Federal Environment Minister requesting that she not refer the Springbank Project to a public panel.
